I thought I would share the method I used to repair my syncros. when I rebuilt the gearbox, I found replacement baulk rings were impossible to find. so I had mine welded on the tabs at the wear points (see first pic of wear) then filed snd reshaped them to size. I have them installed now and so far work perfectly.

Excellent solution Rob.   The best part is that you tested how the transmission worked with your solution.

Glad that the last time (10 years ago) I saved my synchros.

Synchro rings show up as still available from Nissan

http://www.amayama.com/search?q=32604-08003

I think I tried to order those and they came back not available. Although I have been told by Amayama that you can try again in 2-4 weeks and the part may come in. Especially with stuff from UAE. I have been getting my synchro rings from Colombia for some time now.

FYI, you can flip the synchro sleeve around to get more years and life out of it.

Cheers

Also, I read somewhere, I think on Patrol4x4, that another synchro ring will work. From a Volvo or something like that. Don't recall off the top of my head but it sure would be worth looking into if you need synchro rings.

Cheers

Last bit of FYI, Jiun-Mu is who makes aftermarket Patrol synchro rings. Only ones I know of on the planet.

http://www.jmit.com.tw/en/product/14/

*edit* It is listed right there on their first page for Nissan, just needed the right part number.
http://www.jmit.com.tw/en/product_item/308.html

I can confirm these work as I have used them before in Patrol transmissions.

*edit* I downloaded their catalog at the place I posted a link to. This is the synchro ring for the Patrol.

JM-07253C 2253C 32604-08003 <---that is the Nissan part number
http://static.shop033.com/resources/BE/ ... 20RING.pdf

So contact them with this information and I am betting money they will ship you synchro rings!

Further searching using these part numbers brings up this,
http://www.0086parts.com/auto/product/syncring.pdf
page 70 brings up the one for a Patrol with a picture and you can see it is a match.

I know synchro rings have been unobatanium for a long time for Patrol owners so hopefully this info will help put and end to that. :)

Cheers

Excellent information Ian.

I hope we can still get those synchro rings. For me, these rings are the weakest link in the Patrol. They are not up to par for their task, and wear rapidly, specially if you want to shift fast between gears. I used to get less that 20k miles on a set  .

The repair that member robs30m in New Zealand did is outstanding. However it requires an expert welder and even better mechanical skills to put the right shape on the 3 prongs (?).

Also, member Pancho has tried some rings from Colombia. He thinks they're made over there since he had mixed results with them. He was also able to source the original ones, but that was 3 years ago.

The Jiun-Mu synchro rings are the ones used in Colombia.
