A '79 Patrol for just under $40K on Ebay!

Post by faux40 »

It appears to be in really nice condition..

1979 Nissan Patrol LG-60
Rare Medium Wheelbase Classic Nissan Patrol LG-60

http://r.ebay.com/jREc3N

Here's the original copy:

Volcan 4x4, LLC brings you this extremely rare 1979 Nissan Patrol LG-60 medium wheelbase Soft Top. This is a highly restored Nissan Patrol and the last year for the LG-60 model.

We named this truck Indigo for his unique smokey blue paint. Very sharp color contrasted with an as new black soft top.

Only approximately 2000 Nissan Patrols came to the USA in the 1960's. There are only a handful of these medium wheelbase trucks in the USA and very few soft tops. This Nissan Patrol is a direct competitor to the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 medium wheelbase model. The Toyota FJ43 models have enjoyed a great following at the classic car auctions with sales in the $40,000 to $77,500 range.

My company, Volcan 4x4, LLC, is currently importing a 1981 Toyota FJ43 from Colombia and I came across this rare and uniquely well preserved Nissan Patrol.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the history of this truck. Please note the FADEGAN plaque on the rear of the truck which shows that this truck was likely purchased through a cattle ranchers' cooperative. The original owner likely purchased the truck for his personal use. Trucks with the FADEGAN plaque are highly desired in Colombia where most Patrols were used for rural taxis. I have seen photos of this truck before its restoration and it was in very good conditon.

The most recent owner was a commercial airline pilot and classic car enthusiast who owned this truck for 8 years. Five years ago the owner oversaw a restoration including the rebuilding the engine and repainting the truck and installing a new top and a custom roll bar.

My company, Volcan 4x4, then spent 5 weeks completing the truck in Colombia including:

1. 5 new Maxxis Big Horn Mud Terrain Tires on original 16 inch rims
2. 4 new Tokico shocks plus steering stabilizer
3. New power brake booster
4. Rebuilt power steering system from a 1990's Toyota Land Cruiser
5. Relocated new battery to under the seat (original location)
6. Oil and oil filter change
7. 4 brand new drum brakes. New drums. New cylinders. New pads.
8. Complete overhaul of drivetrain including new birfields, new AVM manual locking hubs, 4 new wheel hubs, new gaskets/grease/fluids in entire 4wd system
9. New exhaust system with period correct Nissan muffler
10. One week dent removal, paint touch up, 3 stage Maguiars polish, new tail lamp covers and other detail items

Note the interior is in very good condition with custom floor mats and original 35 year old snap in Nissan floor mats. Note custom spare tire cover.

Favorite features on this truck include the unique paint, the dash air vents, the three windshield wipers, the manual crank start, and ignition key in the dash.

Best feature is the powerful Nissan 4.0 liter straight six. Having owned Toyota Land Cruisers, I am very impressed with the smoothness and power of this Nissan six. It has more torque than Toyota's famed 2F and really pulls the truck up the Colombian mountains! Note this truck has a 3 speed manual with non synchronized first gear. The truck pulls from low speeds in 2nd gear. The transmission shifts perfectly.

If you are looking for a unique 4x4 to take 9 of your friends to the beach or the mountains this is your truck.

To address some of the reservations regarding parts sourcing for classic Nissan Patrols I offer the following. 35 year old trucks will always need maintenance and repairs. In this case the truck has been thoroughly restored and recently reviewed. I have access to nearly all the parts needed in Colombia. Also nearly all parts are available via ebay parts specialists in Australia.

Truck to be tagged in Florida and available to take delivery in Tampa, FL area in April. I am familiar with the process as I recently imported a 1983 FJ40 which I sold at Mecum Auctions in Orlando.

Emissions regulations are to be the Buyer's responsibility. Truck meets the FL exemption for emissions. Truck has no heat or AC. Ask about sources for this.

A $5000 REFUNDABLE deposit wired to Volcan 4x4, LLC Florida bank account is required to reserve the truck at the agreed price. Fly down to Tampa to see the truck. It will not disappoint. Volcan 4x4, LLC was formed with the goal of importing high quality unique 4x4 Left Hand Drive trucks from Colombia.

More photos and videos of this beautiful truck can be seen at Facebook.com/volcan4x4 and volcan4x4 channel on youtube.

Recent compression test shows compression within tolerance:

March 9, 2014. Just drove the truck up local Colombian mountain road 5000 feet elevation to 7000 feet in 45 minutes. This road is notorious for overheating older cars and Nissan performed perfectly. DId a 3 hour round trip drive on curvy mountain roads up and down and truck's power steering, new power brakes and brakes were perfect. The Nissan motor really pulls up the mountains. I was able to do 50 mph and the mud terrains were quiet and stable in the curves. Thanks

The expectations are certainly high for the seller. Good descriptions, specially for the non familiar crowd. I think the price he's asking is way out of hand. Just compare this with the unique 69 that sold recently here and now belongs to one of the members at the forum. Now that's a fine example, and way better than this one.

No doubt that's in really good condition and has been treated well before. However, I see a number of items that are not original, in just a quick browse. The mirrors to begin with, power steering system from a Toyota LC !!, the canvas top (sorry, this one is vinyl).

Two years ago they sold a G61 (the really rare ones) and ended up in the town that my work is located. About the same condition and it sold for $28900. I saved the link:

certainly not original... good eye on the power steering and vinyl top, Esteban.

I see:

aftermarket ignition system
battery- wrong
dual reservoir master cylinder
aftermarket stereo (speakers right where the side wing-vents should be- :naughty: )

and to top it all off- the purple streak in the girl's hair TOTALLY clashes :D

x2

The dual master cylinder is original, beginning in 73 when they changed to the dual master cylinder.

The wipers are the ones RiverPatrol was looking the other day. :shhh:

The lack of heater was typical of all Patrols sent to Colombia and Ecuador in South America. The underlying reason was not that it wasn't needed, but rather the concept of a "luxury" item in the vehicle, and as such was imposed stiff import duties. Go figure! Same for a radio.

Doh! I just noticed that I posted this with a title showing that it was under $40 on ebay -- Now, that would be a fantastic deal! Anyway, I corrected the title to $40K to reflect the actual price... Sorry for the mistake.

By the way, I've contacted the seller and asked that they redo the model's hair coloring to provide a better match to moore_rb's refined aesthetic sensibilities. ;-)

That's what I'm talking about.

Personally, I think that the (incorrect) orange plug wires clash worse than the girls purple hair streak.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Those pictures don't look like Clearwater Beach, FL. I've seen that one on here somewhere.
