60Patrol

Has, or does anyone ever lubricate their starter and clutch/brake pedals? I always looked at the bearing on the starter but until I read the owners manual didn't know that you could simply push it down and drop oil in it!! It says to use motor oil.

It also shows the area to add oil to the water pump!

I looked but don't see the grease nipple on my water pump.

Maybe the water pump was replaced at some point. The newer design pump is lubricated for life, has a totally different bearing and seal.

I've always lubricated the starter motor and also the pedals. Not as often as called for. Hey, thanks for the reminder.

The oldest Patrol with the mechanical linkage for the clutch was fitted with 26 grease zerks! Probably the most of any 4wd ever.

and I've got FOUR of them..... so over 100 zerks for me..


I better start buying my grease by the drum.

Funny you mention it! I have a '66 with a mechanical clutch and I had it up on the lift at work the other day and I thought I had got them all, until I climbed under it again today to find more that I missed by the levers to the transfer-case.

The later water pumps, after about '65, didn't have the greasable bearing. So, there was no grease fitting for it.

This is the first time I have seen this. It's only missing on my post, still there on everyone else's. Hmmm...

It happens regularly -- I probably see it every couple weeks or so.
