60Patrol

Knowing that there is a good chance I will lose the one and only ignition key I have, does anyone know what the original key for a 1969 patrol looks like and whether the gold-colored ignition key I have (only marking is 6751 stamped into it) might be original??

And any suggestions as to where I can get a blank one to use as a back-up?

I saw Faux40's post on the subject, but could not find anything further on the site, and the Googles come up empty for me.

It shouldn't be too hard to get one made, especially where you are located.

Normally the number stamped on the key is the key code. You can verify this by looking at the ignition switch; it should have the very same code stamped on the front. If they don't match, trust the number on the ignition switch. Any of the other locks on the truck that the key works should have the same number stamped on the face. Since yours is soft top though, the only other lock that the key would work is the gas cap, if it's the original. Soft tops didn't have locks on the front driver's door or the rear door, why bother.

Start with your local Nissan dealer. Many won't make the keys themselves any longer, but if you tell them the year of your vehicle they might recommend you to a locksmith that can. Some locksmiths can even make the key from the code number. The locksmith will probably need you to bring the key to them so that they can match up the correct key blank.

the original key for my 1969 has an octogon head shape and has NISSAN MOTOR CO on both sides. it fits the ignition and gas cap, but have not tried it in the door locks as they need some cleaning first.

I have been searching for the correct keys for the Patrols. I have what I think is the original key for the 1969 Patrol but my 1967 did not have an ignition switch. I did find a key in the back but I think it might be for a Datsun car or pickup, it is also an octogon head with NISSAN MOTOR CO on it. the manuals post on here seem to show a tear drop shaped key?

I have found a couple charts that show the keys. The key for the 1969 and 1967 are similar but the profile of the key way is reversed.

The key the patrol uses looks to be a 5 pin but the 6 pin can be used and cut off.

For the 1969 I think the key should be an Taylor D73V which should translate to Dominion DT5, ILCO DT5, Orion DA15, Silca DAT2, I have not found a Curtis number
For the 1967 I have found a key marked by Curtis as DA-18 but it is a 6 pin key, the 5 pin key is possibly DA-14. It should be the Taylor D74F, Dominion DT1, ILCO DT1, Silca DAT2R, Orion DA15L.

Key blanks for these numbers do not seem to be plentiful in the Kentucky area.

The key blanks show up on eBay sometimes.

I bought a couple that matched the key I found in the back of the 1967 but I have since figured out that that key does not go with my 1967. I think the key might of been for a 510 or 521 Datsun. Another local guy here in town has a 1967 but he has a key with the lion head. I think they used that key on the roadsters though? I was hoping to find out what original key other people have.

Richard, I bought these from Kuwait seller on eBay, he has another, it appears.

I presume these are authentic but I'm no authority. They come with the switch too.

I was thinking the keys with the lion are for the roadster. The manual shows the tear drop shaped key but all I have ever seen are the octagon head key and a bunch of aftermarket keys?? They other 1967 here in town is using a lion head key.

My 65 came originally with the same key as the one you have on the fuel cap picture.
