And then your shifter is going to be pretty tall. You have to be very careful not to accidentally knock the PTO into gear while you are driving, you will destroy the PTO gears that way.

interesting. okay and you probably know me all too well. very clumbsy. I do like the one that has a pin that locks it in place until you need it, that's an excellent design.

I remembered something as I was half awake. I do recall some Patrols having a PTO shifter hole pre-cut on top of the transmission hump behind the shifter. There was even a rubber plug over the hole, which could be slit to act as a boot. I'll try to do some digging and see what I can come up with.

I believe this is the pre-cut hole you are remembering. I think this is a 67' mission cover.

Consequently, this cover does not have the access hole for the clutch slave cylinder since it had mechanical linkage.

Yep, that's the one. Maybe you could use that as a template. I'm sure someone could come up with the rubber piece that fits in there. You could use that for the boot.

Finally got to finish the back of the driver's seat. Here are the steps in order of applying the layers of burlap, synthetic hog's hair, 1/2 inch foam, cotton batting, and finally cotton muslin fabric.

Well I finally got the upholstery finished on the front seats. It only took about 10 months from start to finish. A turtle's pace, but not bad with the normal work and life interruptions though. So here's a shot of the the driver's seat before:
