I beg to differ on the throttle body approach. Those introduce 4-5 new fail points let along a computer.

We are struggling with that right now with the Chicom. After $1000 in "trouble shooting" our bush mechanic Scott is stiff buffaloed. Computer says everything is good.

Now we have a plan to insert an oxygen sensor and monitor in the tailpipe and run it till fail.

In the bush or in the mountains....simple is better in my experience.

Looks great, should work great.

Thanks moore_rb for the info. The seller still had one more on eBay so I popped for it a few minutes ago. Will be interesting to see if he puts some more up on eBay. But, I know I'll need one for my Patrol and as hard as these kits seem to be to find, might as well get one now.

Neither is better than the other... it's a straight-across trade, IMHO.

carbs are easier to set up, and (if you have the training, and the mojo) are easier to tune; and it's visually easier to see when a carb system is "not right".

EFI is harder to get set up off the bat (especially a custom system) but I do agree- once the bugs are worked out and an EFI system is dialed in, it will hold its tune and allow for easier startups and better fuel economy far longer than a carb will before it needs to be looked at again.

Cost? carbs win.

Peace of mind, and "hands off" driveability once it's all dialed in? EFI wins

Number of curse words necessary to get either system working correctly? That's a wash. (I've actually counted, and it's 4,356 curse words for each system)

Agree- Just be sure to print out the Hitachi carb diagram from the appropriate-year parts manual for your Patrol, because the one thing the aussie kit doesn't include is a diagram, or rebuild instructions (I should have mentioned that in my post above, but sometimes I forget that not everyone has been rebuilding carburetors for 30+ years... Sorry about that. )
